Making sure before upgrading F42 to F43

Ever since Fedora 43 came out, I heard about certain issues regarding wine packages, so I decided to not upgrade my system in the meantime. However, since we are very close to the EoL, I wanna ask if it’s actually safe to upgrade now regarding that? I am a college student currently working on other things and studying and I don’t have enough time to reinstall my entire system because of this. I’ve always been updating through Discover and had no issues but of course, this is a major system upgrade we are talking about so I wanna know in advance if I gotta do anything. I’ve been using both Lutris and Steam, and my wine packages are:

(got those through dnf list *wine*)

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated, been running Fedora 42 since september last year so I’m not an expert by any means when it comes to Linux!

It is safe to upgrade.

I can’t remember if you still need to remove Wine, upgrade to F43 and then reinstall Wine, but even if you do, it is still safe.

You can upgrade directly to F44 if you want to.

Do upgrade with DNF give it a shot.

I haven’t done it before, will it tell me about any conflicts or problems if there are any before updating?

Yes, it may simply work, or it may tell you Wine has a conflict. Follow the link I posted, it is fairly easy to upgrade from the command line, and much more reliable.

Do you have Nvidia? If so there have been a couple problems in upgrading to F44.

Nope, I’m on AMD, if there aren’t many issues in F44 right now on the same level this one is at then I could give it a shot, anything I should know?

No, go ahead.

I’ll take care of it tomorrow, if it’s not too much trouble for you and any other person reading this, I will leave a reply if anything comes up, thanks!

Soooo, after doing sudo dnf system-upgrade --releasever=43 this was the output

I’m currently doing the upgrade process after uninstalling wine-dxvk!

As long as you follow the instructions in the referenced guide using dnf on the command line things should work very well.

The wine issue is not a killer since you can reinstall those wine packages after the upgrade completes.
