Lunar Lake audio broken on Fedora 43 – headphone jack initially, now all audio (Dummy Output)

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Fedora and Linux, so apologies if I’m missing something obvious.

I’m on Fedora Workstation 43 running on an Intel Lunar Lake laptop.
Initially, my headphone jack was not working (headphones detected but no sound). Speakers worked at that time.

After troubleshooting and system updates, the situation has worsened:

  • Now no audio works at all (neither speakers nor headphone jack)
  • The sound settings only show “Dummy Output”
  • Volume changes do nothing

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Updated the system fully
  • Booted into older kernels that previously worked (6.17.x), but audio is still gone
  • Reset PipeWire / WirePlumber configs
  • Reinstalled audio packages
  • Fedora Live USB previously had working audio
  • Followed extensive troubleshooting with ChatGPT, but no success

Current state:

  • Fedora Workstation 43
  • Intel Lunar Lake
  • Kernel hopping between 6.17.x and 6.18.x
  • aplay -l previously showed devices, now user-facing audio is “Dummy Output”

At this point I’m stuck and not sure what to do.

Any guidance on how to recover audio, or what logs / commands I should provide, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and help.

have you found a fix? i have the exact same issue.
alltough it worekd sometimes. and sometimes this script helped i found in another forum

sudo bash -c 'echo "options snd_hda_intel dmic_detect=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/audio-options.conf'
echo "fixing.."
sudo dracut --force
echo "jetzt rebooten"

but right now it doesnt work anymore and i somehow even made it worse. it startet with showing duzends of dummy outputs and after another tutorial on the same error it shows duzends of the “alder lake sound technology..” outputs but none of them works.. pretty frustrating.

Hi the issue was with the kernel and was fixed in a later update. I was so deep into a chatGPT solution that even after updating it did not work for me. I had a similar issue as you with multiple dummy outputs and had lost all audio.

I just gave up and reinstalled fedora, also because instead of a fresh install when moving from kde plasma to fedora workstation I had kept the files. So I had some other issues too. So i just decided to reinstall and everything was solved.

I hope this helps.

ah yea i was thinking about reinstalling but would rather fix it without.. i give claude a chance because gpt also didn help with that. thanks for your answer!

which version are you running now? fedora, kernel and gnome version?

Fedora 43
Kernel 6.18.10
GNOME 49.4

I had no luck even with a fresh install and 3 hours Claude troubleshooting

What I noticed is: the Sound works in the live Environment and also in the installed instance BEVORE I login.
The second I press enter for the login it stops and only Shows the Dummy input.

It is realy frustrating because it used to work for years.. And this Problem comes up in man posts here with different solutions and none of them works for me IT seems.

I am almost certain its a Problem of pipewire.. What Version Do yo use
