I think this release might be buggy.
I noticed a similar issue reported here:
Segfault when running latest hyprpaper commit

In that issue, the developer links to the Hyprland FAQ about symbol lookup errors:
symbol-lookup-errors

In my case, I’m not building Hyprpaper locally — I’m using the version from the repository, and I’m experiencing the same behavior after updating to the latest build.

Based on the FAQ, this kind of crash can happen when the Hypr stack is built inconsistently or out of order. Since this is coming from the repository, it might indicate a packaging or build-order issue rather than a local build mismatch.

To rule this out on my side, I’ll try building Hyprpaper locally against my current Hypr stack and see if the issue persists.
If the local build works correctly, it could point to an issue with how the package was built in the repo.

Just sharing this in case it helps with debugging. Thanks.

I suspect IPC / protocol is mismatched, rather than a bug or error in the linker. It is very similar to the problem described in hyprwm/hyprpaper#291, but in this case the incompatibility seems to come from precompiled packages rather than a local compilation done in the wrong order.

I’m afraid to keep talking about this because I don’t even know what’s going on and I’m afraid of saying something silly or stupid that’s irrelevant. Could you take a look at it, please?

Plugins-git need an update upstream since they no longer build. That’s why it’s failing.

As soon as Vaxry pushes an update I will push a new build .

Assuming you updated everything and there are no conflicts when updating??

Ok I figured it out. As of now, IPC calls won’t work because it requires hyprpaper-git when you’re using hyprland-git. So either use a conf file for now to set your wallpaper, or wait for next release.

Everything was moved to hyprtoolkit that’s why it’s not working. I’d rather not make another package just for this small (IMO) issue, but lmk if you want me to. hyprpaper is working fine on Hyprland latest release.

Both of @bigdaddy and @ycfemb issues should be resolved now with upstream updates.
