Libravatar Guide: How to Set Your Fedora Profile Picture Without Issues

Many new contributors run into issues when trying to set their profile picture using Libravatar. This guide walks you through the process step-by-step and highlights some common issues with a reliable fix.

Step 1: Access Libravatar

You can access Libravatar in two ways:

Option 1: Through Fedora Account System

  1. Go to your Fedora account: https://accounts.fedoraproject.org
  2. Log in to your account
  3. Open your profile page
  4. Click “Edit Profile”
  5. Select “Change Avatar”

You will be redirected to the Libravatar OpenID login page.

Option 2: Direct Login

You can also go directly to the OpenID login page:

Step 2: Log in Using OpenID (Critical Step)

To connect your Fedora account to Libravatar, you must log in using OpenID.

In the login field, enter your Fedora username in this format:

your-username.id.fedoraproject.org

Example:

ibrahim-jam.id.fedoraproject.org

Click Login

What Happens Next

After clicking Login, you will be redirected to the Fedora Account login page.

Here, you will log in using your normal Fedora credentials:

  • Username: your FAS username (e.g., devrelhappiness)
  • Password: your FAS password

Common Issue: Login Loop / Repeated Prompt

Some users may encounter a looping login prompt that repeatedly asks for credentials after clicking Login.

Fix:

  • When the extra login prompt appears, simply cancel or close it
  • You will then be redirected to the correct Fedora login page
  • Proceed to log in normally with your username and password

Step 3: Upload Your Profile Picture

Once logged in to Libravatar:

  1. Navigate to your profile
  2. Select “Upload a new photo”
  3. Upload your preferred profile picture

At this point, the upload may appear successful.

Step 4: Fix for Avatar Not Updating (Common Issue)

After uploading, many users notice that their Fedora profile still shows the default avatar.

This is a common issue. Here is the fix:

  1. On Libravatar, click “Add a new email address”
  2. Enter your email address (preferably the one linked to your Fedora account)
  3. Check your inbox and verify the email
  4. Return to Libravatar or your Fedora account page
  5. Refresh the page

Your new profile picture should now appear correctly.

Summary

  • Access Libravatar via FAS or direct login
  • Always log in using OpenID
  • Upload your profile picture
  • If it does not update, add and verify your email
  • Refresh your profile to see the changes
