Latest updates killed my Asahi Mac Studio

Yesterday I ran sudo dnf upgrade and then rebooted. The U-Boot screen dumped me into Emergency Mode. Worse, I got a message telling me that root was locked. Claude and I worked for hours trying to figure out a solution. Built a new Asahi install USB drive, and will try using that to restore the system. But this has made me rethink my whole plan of using this machine as a server and primary workstation, if a system update risks bricking it.

Sorry to hear that you struggled.

If you enter “fedora unlock root account” into Google, the first result is a page titled “Root Account Locked” in the Fedora docs. Does that not work with Asahi? It would be good to point that out on the page, then.

In theory, most updates have a certain potential to introduce issues, you are running different code after all. Hopefully the new code fixes more issues than it introduces, but that isn’t always the case. In any case, I would suggest to perform a proper analysis of what happened before making such a decision.
