If you’re running the F33 prerelease, you should know that the build from Sept 15 (33.20200915.n.0 (2020-09-15T21:09:07Z), basecommit 32b2b7d9f0d681f4b973eca8e84778b2b0f6709fdf06180ad2614e9de2fdcadd) fails to boot.
Here’s my experience dealing with this (perhaps useful for others to see?):
My boot process hung at the splash screen, so I rebooted and hit escape (after decrypting the drives) to reveal the boot messages:
I rebooted and held down shift to get the menu and selected my previous (successful) deployment, 33.20200913.n.0 (2020-09-13T07:59:41Z), then did an rpm-ostree reset
and rpm-ostree upgrade
to get a “clean” version of 33.20200915.n.0 (2020-09-15T21:09:07Z) without overlays. The boot still failed, but with different failing processes.
At this point, I realize that there’s nothing I can do but wait for a fix… and, since I’m using Silverblue, I can at least roll back to an old version.
I rebooted my laptop and held shift again to boot 33.20200913.n.0 (base commit 7de80b1a27968e257a31180f4ae046f5e7acc3c6fd978b90122a5551320b5db9).
BTW: It seems this build has failed several tests, but still went out as an update for us anyway. I know this is a (pre)beta, but aren’t we still supposed to have test gating for things like this?
For reference, here’s a copy/paste from the failed tests on https://www.happyassassin.net/nightlies.html :

BTW: I don’t know what the bug is aside from “services fail and my computer doesn’t boot”. I’m guessing it’s a mishmash of system-level packages that don’t play well together, since so many services are failing.

Additionally, the broken build is the one offered @ Team Silverblue — Download on URL listed on “Try Fedora 33 composes”. So anyone wanting to test F33 using Silverblue at the moment is out of luck due to the lack of tests blocking bad builds.

I’ve downloaded and installed the last known good version — 20200914.n.0 (2020-09-14T08:05:11Z), commit a2ead73898ba4861d018599c001b141511c14c1efc4203b5433b754873171050 — of Silverblue in a VM in the background while doing other stuff.
I did an rpm-ostree upgrade --preview
in an attempt to figure out what the problem might be, and there have been a lot of packages that were upgraded (and replaced with modules?) between the versions:
# rpm-ostree upgrade --preview

There’s a new release: 33.20200916.n.0 (2020-09-16T08:01:16Z)
Commit: c2d7a118bf25b32d4bc0b2d0b4c60e29cccca00d7d8f04e4369eb272e5296b38
But it still has the same (polkit? selinux?) problem. Don’t upgrade .

Same problem here. Journal shows a whole bunch of broken dependencies to libpolkit-gobject
/usr/sbin/pcscd: error while loading shared libraries: libpolkit-gobject-1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
and so on.

I wonder if this is affecting normal Fedora 33 beta… or if it’s a Silverblue only thing?
I’m surprised it’s been a few days already.

Opened an issue @ F33: boot failure (since 2020-09-15) · Issue #82 · fedora-silverblue/issue-tracker · GitHub as this seems to be Silverblue specific, and I am not really sure which component applies on Bugzilla.

Update: It looks like it’s due to modules from flatpak builds getting pulled into Silverblue due to a mistake. Issue #9758: Untag flatpak module builds from f33-modular - releng - Pagure.io
It should (hopefully ) be resolved by next compose.

Good to know they’re on it, not as good that it happened at all. Thank you for the updates!
Also: Robosignature Misconfiguration would be a great postpunk band name.
