KDE Plasma 6 + SDDM on Fedora 43 ignores NumLock at login

System:

  • Fedora 43
  • KDE Plasma 6.5.x
  • Wayland session
  • SDDM display manager

Issue:

  • NumLock is set to “Enabled” in KDE System Settings
  • Numlock=on is set in /etc/sddm.conf.d/10-numlock.conf
  • NumLock LED is OFF at SDDM login screen
  • After login, NumLock remains OFF (xset q confirms)

Tried:

  • numlockx (ignored under Wayland)
  • KDE keyboard settings
  • SDDM config Numlock=on
  • systemd service with setleds before display-manager

Hardware:

  • USB keyboards (Logitech / Razer)

What’s the status of Numlock set to in your BIOS?

It seems that Numlock=on doesn’t work with Wayland. See for example Peculiar, Nagging Problem with Num Lock at SDDM.

It would be nice if Linux would pick up the bios setting for numlock, but that never worked.

Hy numlock bios ON.
