The Fedora 43 KDE live installer runs sluggishly and consumes a lot of CPU resources when run without 3D acceleration (e.g. in a virtual machine without 3D passthrough, or when booted in basic graphics mode).
Ideally, run with 3D acceleration enabled. If using a virtual machine, see if it’s possible to pass through the capabilities of your host system’s 3D accelerator to the virtual machine.
Otherwise, you can just live with it, or you could install from the network install image instead, and select the KDE package set.
I know this is already written, but… do you think this is high-profile enough to be published? It’s just related to the installer, nothing else, it’s a one-time issue. So yeah, the installation might be 10 minutes longer, but most people can’t really tell (they won’t be comparing it to other install media). And once they install, they are not affected anymore during regular usage.
My call would be to drop the common bug mark.
I’m trying to keep the common issues list short and readable, that’s my primary motivation for raising this.
mm. well, it’s not just that the install is slow, it’s sluggish - particularly when the installer is first launched it feels very unresponsive, clicking on things can take seconds to take effect, ditto typing. it seems like the kind of thing people may notice.
we could keep it as a draft and see if anyone mentions it first?
KDE seems slow in general, so I haven’t really noticed any difference in general usage Or maybe I assigned more CPUs to the VM than you did. Anyway, if you prefer to publish this, I’m fine with it. Or wait. You already wrote it, I’ll make it your call
