KDE’s Konsole has a few hotkeys for splitting the terminal view. I am trying to figure out how to obtain the desired behavior:
- A hotkey to split my view horizontally, adding a new view on top of my currently active tab,
- Another hotkey to split my view horizontally, this time adding a new view BELOW my currently active tab,
- same behavior for left/right.
Can this be obtained?
Konsole’s keyboard shortcut pane has some less-than-clear options labelled:
- “Split View Top-Bottom” vs “Split View Top-Bottom”
- “Split View Left-Right” vs “Split View Left/Right”
Which brings me to another question: What is the difference between these options?
I tested them out for a moment and couldn’t discern any functional difference: https://mikomiko.org/files/Screencast_20250605_122328.webm
In the top pane I press a hotkey for Top-Bottom, then switch to the bottom pane and press the hotkey for Top/Bottom.
Both options appear to split view horizontally (as expected), and create a new terminal below my active terminal (fine). But how can I get a split view that creates a new terminal above my active terminal? And what is the difference between the /
and -
variants?
For the record, the left/right & left-right options behave similarly, but split vertically and always spawn the new terminal to the right of the active terminal.
