Does audio work if you boot w/o snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1 ?
Interrupt boot process at the grub stage and edit the linux cmd line and remove that option.

Where would I find the cmd line? I’m still pretty new to this whole thing
Okay wait, I actually think that did something. This shows up in the sound settings but unfortunately there is still 0 sound from any option given to me.
remove this package
sudo dnf remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio
reboot and keep the left shift key or ESC pressed. You should see the grub boot screen.
press ‘e’ and locate the linux cmd line, delete the word/string and then Ctrl-x to boot.
Try changing the profile to something else than ‘Pro Audio’
there is nowhere in the grub boot screen “e” brings up any sort of option and the only option I have besides “pro audio” is “off”
???
pressing ‘e’ in grub boot menu shows a screen similar to this one
let’s use grubby instead:
sudo grubby --remove-args="snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1" --update-kernel=ALL
end restart
Well I’ve both used grubby and restarted my computer. When I open the audio settings in my taskbar it no longer says there’s no audio output and gives me a few options to choose from (built-in audio pro, and built-in audio pro 7 and 8) though I’m unable to screencap it as it closes before I can open spectacle. The bad news is however, no matter which option I pick, there is still no audio coming from my laptop.
When you get to the grub menu and hit “e” then it should put you into edit mode where you can change the boot paramaters. But grubby should works as well. Thanks for your help Mark.
I also wonder what happens when running alsamixer and selecting the sound card. Master should be set to more than zero. I just tried that out for myself because I am always trying to learn.
Apologies for the interruption. When I see issues like this I start going Google crazy to see if anyone has had a similar issue. All kinds of things will come up.
what is the output of cat /proc/cmdline and
sudo journalctl --no-hostname --no-pager -b -k -g snd

is still part of the linux cmd line.
you could also try a newer kernel. If it’s a kernel issue.

So when you boot you are getting to GRUB correct?
A question for you. Would it make sense to go to the command line and run alsamixer and then hit F6 to choose a sound card and just make sure that something like master is not set to zero? I only played with alsamixer once when I first upgraded to 43 and volumeicon was not working properly because of a bug in bwrap. I didn’t even realize that there was more information that one could get after hitting F6. I have a feeling that you are a bit more advanced in your troubleshooting than me. Not trying to interrupt the testing that you are currently doing. I agree that modifying the cmd line is a good way to test things.
Just seeing it marked as solved because of Mark’s suggestion.
it would not make sense as long as the sound card is not properly detected. See the journalctl output.
I suspect the newer kernel drivers have to use the AVS driver and fails to configure the card when configured to legacy HDA
$ modinfo -p snd-intel-dspcfg
dsp_driver:Force the DSP driver for Intel DSP (0=auto, 1=legacy, 2=SST, 3=SOF, 4=AVS) (int)
Did you see it marked as solved? I thought it was weird that it was marked as solved but OP didn’t say anything. Oh well…
Also thanks for chiming in and finding the solution.
Hey it only took 6 hours and you got your answer.
@kc609 if audio is working now, could you pls post the output of
sudo journalctl --no-hostname --no-pager -b -k -g snd
to see how the audio card is configured properly?
So there were two problems: the kernel was forced to use the legacy driver, and pulseaudio was installed alongside pipewire.
