Just Done Regular Update on KDE 42, Now SDDM Doesn't Work Correctly and Black Backgroud

Hi,

I’ve just done an update today (Nov 08) and after rebooting the SDDM screen had errors (Sorry if the below isn’t 100%, can’t take a screenshot or do much with the install at the moment).

The current theme cannot be loaded due to errors below, please select another theme.

file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/01-breeze-fedora/Main.qml:12:1: Cannot load library /user/lib64/qt6/qml/org/kde/plasma/components/liborg_kde_plasmacomponents3.so: /user/lib64/qt6/qml/org/kde/plasma/components/liborg_kde_plasmacomponents3.so: undefined symbol: ZNK11QQmlPrivate18AOTCompiledContext9setLocalsEPKNS23AOTTrackedLocalsStorageE,

I tried booting into both the last 2 installs from GRUB and this update has stuffed these too (same error)

If I log in at the SDDM screen, I get the KDE splash screen which stays there.

I can open a TTY terminal with CTRL-ALT-F2, login and get a little bit of desktop, with a black background, no taskbar. I can open Dolphin, Terminal with hot keys.

I also tried removing the latest kernel update and re-doing the update with:

sudo dnf upgrade —refresh

but that didn’t solve it either.

I think it’s similar to this topic SDDM Failure after System Update

I tried their solutions from here Making sure you're not a bot! by loading the testing repo, updating the testing solutions but came back with “Nothing To Do”

I also tried installing X11 to see if I could login with that but get the same issue

I’m just wondering whether I should leave it a few days until the problem is fixed and try an update again or bite the bullet and install Fedora 43 instead (I need to increase the /boot partition anyway)?

Hardware: Lenovo Yoga Ultra 7 CPU

Fedora 42

Thanks for any assistance

Never mind.

I needed the system up and running so blew it away and installed 43 instead. Other than the new installer not finding other OS’ and making a proper GRUB menu it’s working again.
