The Lynis security tool I use to carry out security audits on my Fedora 40 system and my wife’s has recently flagged the following:
“The JBD (Journal Block Device) driver is not loaded. Since boot-time, you have not been using any file systems with journaling. Alternatively, reason could be driver is updated.”
I would appreciate guidance with this please. I’m uncertain at to whether this can be ignored, or what steps to take to resolve. Thank you.
I think that’s very out of data advice. How old is the tool you are using?
What file system are you using? Look at lsblk -f
to find out.
I have ext4, xfs and btrfs all with journaling and no sign of a jbd module explicitly in the kernel.
The version of Lynis running is 3.1.2.
sda1 - vfat
sda2 - ext 4
sda3 - crypto_LUKS, btrfs
sdb1 - ext 4
sdc1 - crypto_LUKS, btrfs

All of your filesystems that can be journaled are being journaled.
The Lynis software is giving you a false error, you have the latest version I see from their download.
In light of this error in their reporting I would be seriously questioning what else they do and do not get right.
If you want to compare to another offering try https://www.tenable.com/ that used to offer a free version of there scanning tools.
I found them to be good quality, in both my previous two jobs employer spent money to get the full service.
