Is the partial shutdown issue fixed for Nvidia GPUs?

I noticed that when I shut down my F44 system, there is still a residual battery drain. Yesterday night the battery was around 30%. By coincidence this got tested out. Today morning when I turned on my laptop, the battery had drained out to 0%.

There’s a lot of reports as well in this forum. Has this been fixed? I could maybe disable the discrete GPU and only keep the small iGPU enabled (since I won’t be running games) if this can actually put the system to complete power off.

Are you sure you’re doing a Shutdown and not a Suspend? If it’s truly a Shutdown then that should completely power down the laptop so it should not be using any power. Are you just shutting a laptop lid or are you explicitly using the Shutdown option from your GUI or are you typing “systemctl poweroff” or “systemctl suspend”? You might try these commands and see what they do and say.

As it’s shutting down, hit ESC so you can see the text logs. Is it maybe getting hung up trying to shut down a service?

I did shut down from the UI. Everything did shut down including all the LEDs. Until I noticed that the battery that was at 66% drained completely to 0%. So I charged the laptop, booted Fedora and did a shut down again noting the battery level. After one hour, the battery really did drain. I also felt the fans were on while the rest of the laptop was shut.

I’ll use systemctl shutdown although something tells me the Nvidia GPU will still drain the battery. For now I have disabled the discrete GPU and running Fedora only on the integrated GPU. Will observe how this goes.
