Is it normal for virt-manager to create a bunch of users, groups and symlinks?

I ran “sudo dnf install virt-manager” and the terminal showed a bunch of groups (‘qat’, ‘gluster’, ‘qemu’,‘libvirt’), users (‘gluster’, ‘qemu’) and symlinks being created.

I’m a bit confused. I have the virtualisation group of packages installed (including virt-manager). But I don’t have these groups. Is this possible? I noticed it earlier today when I was following some instructions to resize a VM image.

To see if you actually have those groups and users run the commands
cat /etc/group | grep -E "qat|gluster|qemu|libvirt"
cat /etc/passwd | grep -E "gluster|qemu"
The results should show something like this if you have virt-manager installed.

$ cat /etc/group | grep -E "qat|gluster|qemu|libvirt"
kvm:x:36:qemu
qemu:x:107:
gluster:x:990:
libvirt:x:983:MYUSER
libvirtdbus:x:964:
qat:x:958:


$ cat /etc/passwd | grep -E "gluster|qemu"

Note that you would need to add your own user to the libvirt group then logout and back in before you can use virt-manager (VMM).
