I am afraid to try to install fedora 44 again, last time in march or April it crashed my system. since then i am back with 43, please advise.
You need to describe what exactly was your problem, otherwise we can’t judge. Any complex software certainly always has bugs, so your question is too generic to answer properly.
Most of the release bugs have been fixed … and some new ones introduced!
i tried to install fedora 44, it completed and when i tried to reboot all i got was a blank screen and a flashing cursor. attempts to reboot by trying pre existing versions of 43 failed, never quite reaching full boot, but my question is…is the known flaw of the 44 install still being served up for install or has the known install bug from earlier this year been decisively corrected? If the 44 install issue that we have been seeing and hearing about is known to have been fixed, that is what i need to know.

What GPU does your hardware have?
Intel and AMD GPUs just work.
But you usually need to install the nvidia drivers from RPMfusion to get good results with NVIDIA GPUs.
For me, the initial installation was buggy but after the first update everything is fine.

Very few users participate in pre-release testing that would help make new releases work across a wider range of systems. After release, developers are focused on preparing the next release, so problems with the last release may not get full attention.
You can use https://linux-hardware.org to see how your hardware works in various Linux distros. Often there are hardware components that are not properly supported by their vendors on Linux. You may need to replace modules or resort to USB dongles.
the system is a optiplex 9020, previous installs worked fine, 43 is working fine .

I remember there were one or two blank screen install problems, but if it does not work, we have workarounds, so we can help you fix them.
Do you have Nvidia graphics card?
You also don’t really need 44, 43 is still current for a few months, and you coud upgrade directly to 45 when it becomes stable, so what you do is really your choice.
If you dont know which to choose, I would go with the KDE.

You are currently on Gnome, also known as Workstation, with an integrated Intel GPU (so no Nvidia).
I would recommend you upgrade using the link I provided, and if you really want a full reinstall the Gnome Workstation version of the respin is F44-WORK-x86_64-LIVE-20260731.iso

Those Optiplex AIO boxes are not widely used outside “enterprise” cubicle farms. Did you buy it new or “refurbished”. I worked in a cubicle farm with Dell gear and IT had them built with “custom” configurations that were only available for orders of over 1000 units, so you may have something not available to linux devs and also very few other users running linux. Pre-release testing is important for such systems.
You can see how the updated Gnome Live USB respin works before installing. I use ventoy, which allows me to simply copy “Live” USB ISO’s to the Downloads director on a Ventoy USB and chose one to boot. I keep some recovery ISO’s as well as multiple Fedora ISO’s on mine.
