Invisible Mouse Cursor in Fedora 44 Budgie New Install

I’m seeing (or rather not seeing) an invisible cursor once logged in to Budgie Desktop on a VMware ESXi (v7.03) virtual machine. Before log in, the mouse cursor is visible at the SDDM login page, then disappears once logged in. I’ve replicated this on several VMs, both with the live ISO and with fully updated installed systems.

The cursor exists and I can even select and click on stuff, but it is not visible. This is similar to a previous issue with Fedora 42 Workstation. I resolved the issue by upgrading the VM version to 7.03, but I’m already at that version and can’t upgrade further. I attempted to enable remote desktop (RDP), but Budgie does not appear to have that functionality.

I tried installing Gnome-Remote-Desktop, but was unable to get it to listen on port 3389. I’d suppose I could try xrdp/xorg, but Budgie 10.10 (which comes with F44) is Wayland only.

As for the logs, there are no USB/mouse errors that I could find. Which isn’t strange as the mouse cursor exists and is functional, it’s just invisible.

I’ve tested the same VM with Workstation, KDE Plasma, lxqt, MATE, xfce and Cinnamon, but was unable to recreate the issue. It seems that only F44 Budgie Desktop has this issue. I’d note that after installation, all updates are applied successfully, but the mouse cursor remains invisible.

Any suggestions for further troubleshooting, log analysis and/or configuration checks/changes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
