Intermittent touchpad lag with Dell XPS 9510

I’m having a problem with the touchpad on Dell’s new XPS 9510, running Fedora 34. Approximately every 5-10 minutes, the cursor gets noticeably sluggish for a few minutes, then it goes back to being perfectly responsive. xinput list says it’s a “DLL0945:00 04F3:311C Touchpad”.

I’m not seeing unusual CPU activity or any other obvious indication that something is wrong while this is happening. It doesn’t appear to be related to what programs are running. My bluetooth Magic Trackpad works great and doesn’t exhibit this problem.

Any suggestions for narrowing down the cause of the problem?

On my Dell XPS 9510 with Elantech touchpad (DLL0945:00 04F3:311C), I was also seeing regular touchpad lag and acceleration loss in Linux and Windows 11.

I find updating the touchpad firmware to version “0c” (listed for the XPS 9710) has addressed the issues:
