Intel Mesa HD Graphics 3000 not working after upgrading from originally shipped iso kernel in f42 kde

Hi there, I’ve been a Linux for a few years, mainly sticking to Debian-based distros. As of late though after restoring my EliteBook 2560p, I wanted to try Fedora and I liked it enough to stay on it with the Plasma Desktop. However, after upgrading from the kernel that’s shipped with the distro, I saw instead of loading Mesa drivers, it’s running on llvmpipe and I still haven’t found a way to fix it. Here’s an inxi -Fzxx as i was requested in this topic.

Is there any way to fix this? Also, here’s how KDE’s About this system shows the graphics processor:

Please describe what “not working” means (ideally, with error messages from journalctl). I have Fedora Workstation on several systems, some Intel iGPU and one Nvidia. vulkaninfo show that llvmpipe is being used on with both Intel iGPU and Nvidia systems.

Means would need to install the package vulkan-tools , right ?

Well what doesn’t work from my view as a user is the graphics driver, considering it falls back to software rendering instead of the integrated graphics themselves. If I do sudo journalctl | grep i915, I’m getting these logs:

I removed most of the info though that looked useless because I’m pretty sure it just mentions the limits of llvmpipe which I suppose it’s standard wherever it is, considering I don’t see anything related to my integrated graphics.

The vulkaninfo entries that mention llvmpipe are similar to what I see on a couple systems with Intel iGPU’s, but I don’t have the i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe messages on either system. My systems have [drm] Finished loading DMC firmware i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin (v1.4) that I don’t find in your post, but both systems use newer iGPU’s.

Have you checked for UEFI/BIOS updates? Yours is dated 2018.

This laptop has an experimental UEFI so I keep it disabled unless I boot Windows 10, since it breaks GRUB every time no matter the distribution I choose. There’s also no other updates for the BIOS. Is there anything I could really do about it? Or should I switch to a different desktop environment reinstalling Fedora? There’s also my possibility of getting Debian 13 when it releases but who knows how much it’ll take for that to release.

Edit: I just googled up the error and it may be fixed with i915.enable_psr=0 added to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX. I’m probably gonna try that and give an update on that.

Update: Added that parameter and it fixed the errors, I also followed this and it helped out a bit.

I still gotta check if KDE now sees the change or not, and I have to remove i915.enable_psr_helper=0 since it says it’s unknown, therefore it ignores it.

New Update: Still stuck at llvmpipe, however, when I did again sudo journalctl | grep "Jun 17" | grep drm| less in tty, there weren’t anymore errors related to that. Any idea @gnwiii?

I saw that, but it is for power management, modinfo i915 lists kernel command-line options. You might try verbose_state_checks=1.

Tried it, but no changes whatsoever…maybe should I handpick what options I have and update on the results?

Not sure which parameter you mean by “that”.

modinfo i915 does not list enable_psr_helper. Putting i915 in initramfs has worked for others.

Not sure what you mean by “stuck”.

By “that” i mean adding i915.enable_psr=0.

By “stuck” I mean the graphics processor in the system details doesn’t change at all to the intel driver. Honestly I might take it as a KDE bug or something, so I’m probably gonna try a different desktop environment first to see if it changes anything…

inxi shows you are using the i915 driver:

All my systems (Nvida and Intel iGPU) use llvmpipe with mesa with either i915 or nouveau drivers. Are you using KDE’s 3D Desktop Effects?

Well pretty much I never tinkered with it so, what comes stock as 3D effects in KDE, it’s enabled. Why so?
