Does anyone have any experience with the Intel GPU running on fedora? Was looking to switch from nvidia, and the B580 is ridiculously cheap for a graphics card of its specs.
Thanks
I have tested it on several Linux distros, what did you want to know?
The drivers are natively part of recent kernels and you will get the xe driver without any config needed on the B580.
Is your purpose to use it for productivity or gaming?
Just productivity, basic stuff. I don’t play any games, maybe an emulator here and there but nothing intensive at all.
It should work great for that use case. It is generally a hassle-free experience outside of gaming.
Just make sure your motherboard supports resizable bar.
what’s the general hassle with gaming?
Performance and compatibility.
I did some testing in December and found that both were substantially worse than on Windows on the same card. Some games were not even playable on Linux.
Keep in mind, I was testing 3 cards across both Windows and Linux so I didn’t spend a lot of time trying to find fixes or optimizations for any single card. However, those games which failed on the B580, worked fine on both nvidia and AMD so it wasn’t general Linux compatibility.
