I added a second 1440p monitor to my setup and as of this Sunday a new 5070 from ASUS. I upgraded from a 3060ti since it seemed like my performance was a little iffy with two screens in 1440.
It seems like performance isn’t quite the best still when I’m playing games and I’m wondering if it’s something I had done. Do I need to update or change the drivers now for this card? I should have the most up to date ones since performance before the second screen was relatively good.
I’m starting to Almost wondering if this could be something with how Fedora interfaces with the Nvidia card or something.

Another strange issue i have is that the computer itself won’t turn off when I restart or shutdown. It just goes to a black screen. Not sure what the cause of this is entirely. I will have to hold down the power button to shut off my computer fully.

Hi, so you are using the Nvidia driver and to be more exact you use the open Nvidia driver which is good.
All modern Nvidia chips can use these.
I have never used this command:
sudo dnf swap akmod-nvidia akmod-nvidia-open but I would think when you revert the 2 options like this:
sudo dnf swap akmod-nvidia-open akmod-nvidia will get you the closed drivers again. But again I never used either one of them.
These days, the akmod-nvidia package should auto-detect the graphics card and install the appropriate flavour of the driver (the “open-kernel, closed-user-space” Dual MIT/GPL version for newer cards, or the “closed-kernel, closed-user-space” version for older cards).
The 5000 series cards are only compatible with the “open-kernel, closed-user-space” driver and won’t work with the fully closed-source driver.
akmod-nvidia-open is now deprecated (in fact it doesn’t exist on Fedora 43).
So, swapping back to akmod-nvidia now is a good idea to make future upgrades go smoothly, but it probably won’t change the version of the installed driver.
It certainly won’t change the currently loaded driver, but the command akmods --rebuild --force when run after the swap completes will ensure that the newest driver modules are built and should load on the next boot. Verification of that would be done with modinfo -l nvidia and modinfo -F version nvidia. The version should be shown as ‘580.119.02’ and the license should be ‘Dual MIT/GPL’ as already noted above
Yeah i figured that out somewhat. I think I just got paranoid thinking It had worse performance. it’s pretty much the same performance across all games except like one (space marine)
For some reason there’s a ton of artifacting when I use Nvidia frame generation on many games like Stalker 2 and Deep rock galactic. This seems to happen with two screens at 1440p for some reason and I’ve tried a few fixes like setting their frame rate to be the same (one is a 180 and the other is 165). Unfortunately didn’t seem to stop it.
Do you think rebuilding this will help solve my computer not shutting down. When i load up on windows it does shutdown/restart correctly. I’m thinking it’s something within Fedora. I can’t really say what it would be as it’s not something I deeply understand. I’m thinking that maybe something is hanging up on shutdown.
With that said, I’d be more then happy to provide some logs if possible.

journalctl -p 3 -b -1
here is the output. I believe this is the last journals from before trying to do a restart. Hope there’s some help here. I can’t get a journal open while the computer fails to shut down because the screens go black and turn off totally. Just the computer itself stays on.
