If you're concerned about age verification coming for Linux, you gotta call your elected representatives

Look up whether age verification is being considered at the OS level in your country or state/provincial government. Wherever you find it, contact your elected representatives at that level and tell them that you oppose age verification. Then find a way to follow the news and keep on calling. Maybe even try to find a local advocacy group that is fighting this and follow them.

The Fedora Project will have to make decisions as these laws continue to be discussed. Unfortunately the more that these types of laws get passed in regional or national governments, that harder it is for the project to realistically have a say one way or another. Before we are constrained by the law, we need to use our power as constituents to fight back.

Don’t leave influence on the table at this crucial moment. If you don’t want age verification in Fedora, pressure your elected representatives to leave it alone.

By the way, this is true of all the digital rights issues that have flared up since last year. Whether it’s Chat Control, device monitoring, online censorship, age verification, or anything else, governments and companies are trying hard to push the world into a new, more privacy-invasive status quo. Don’t let them.

Totally agree with you Joseph, making a stink or things with your local and federal representatives really can work.
Approach them in a friendly and concerned manner, and tell them how this can enable over-reach, damage privacy and is technically not going to have it’s intended effects.

If others can add resources to local groups, issue templates or useful articles, add them here!
