I really like Fedora and have been using it as my primary system for a few years. I keep a text file with a series of settings and commands that I usually run whenever I perform a clean install of Fedora—whether for myself, a friend, or a client.
I’m not a developer, but given the capabilities offered by AI—and having some knowledge of programming logic and website creation—I thought: Why not just do it?
Well, I did…
Introducing FOF – Fedora Only Fans.
It is a tool for configuring and optimizing Fedora Linux.
The goal is to make Fedora just as practical, easy, and simple as Ubuntu, ZorinOS, Pop!_OS, Linux Mint, etc., for casual users and/or Linux beginners. Since I believe Fedora is one of the best (if not *the* best) operating systems out there, I don’t like the fact that the distro is still often viewed as unsuitable for beginners.
The tool is localized for English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese (my native language), and I sincerely hope the project proves useful.
As I mentioned, I’m not a dev. I barely have time to work on my own projects, but I wanted to do something for the distro I love so much. I hope it helps…
Ps.: If in the wrong forum, please move it to the right place. And sorry about my english…
I don’t know what the readme says since it’s all in Spanish, but I think it might be a similar concept to Ninite (basically you select apps you want installed and you download a package that installs the apps)
(Oh, and all the fans are probably either in storage or used to cool the AI that made this)
I prefer to keep my systems as streamlined as possible, and to have full control of what I am installing/configuring on them, but I can see how this can appeal to some users. OTOH such users might go to the UBlue project, as I see some overlap here (gaming, multimedia codecs OOTB, preference for Flatpaks etc).
I haven’t run or checked the code, but I expect the package/Flatpak installations listed in the README are optional, rather than something that must be installed in its entirety.
It sounds like a great project. I wonder about the name, though. Is it meant to evoke the adults-only site OnlyFans? I thought at first it would be a Fedora-based browser for that site! It seems to me not fortuitous and as well there might be titles that better describe the project.
Thanks for the effort but it is just a bit silly. “Beginner-friendly” is very much a matter of opinion.
Apart from that. Beginners should know that each opensource project and software comes with limited usability by design. The focus is on free, non-spying, save, secure — not necessairly on beginner-friendliness.
A software can be extremly good in quality but if it is perceived as not beginner-friendly it probably isn´t and more documentation on how to start working with will not help (quite the opposite, actually).
I retired in 2018, but before that part of my job was helping scientists use our software (ported from SGI IRIX64 to Linux and macOS). The majority of users were new to Linux, but found https://LinuxCommand.org/ helpful in the sense that “proper preparation prevents piss-poor performance”.
