I may have broken my printer due to a faulty driver (PLEASE help)

So i decided to switch from CachyOS to Fedora, everything was fine until i wanted to install a driver for my Canon I-sensys mf4018 printer, in CachyOS i used AUR but here things should have been even easier because the driver was on the official Canon website so i installed the rpm package and it showed me an error but i went to Cups and it found both the printer and the driver and when i started to print the program says everything is done but the printer nothing does I even went back to the CachyOS and installed the old driver, but now I have the same problem. Please help me i’m panicking and don’t know what to do or who to contact if i have to reinstall fedora to show the errors i will do it just write something please!!!

If the package failed to install, then it probably didn’t affect your printer.

That makes sense. A lot of printers work “driverless” so you don’t need to install the driver.

It sounds like the printer might have some problem unrelated to the fact you tried to install the driver in Fedora.

What happens if you try to use the printer without a computer connected? For example, it looks like your model has a “photocopy” function that doesn’t require a computer. Does that work correctly now?

its installed but with error

Without driver installed CUPS just showing me gutenprint drivers

when i use the buttons everything works

OK, so at least it seems like the printer isn’t broken, it’s a software problem.

This does seem weird.

From CachyOS, does the CUPS web UI (at http://localhost:631) show anything relevant, either on the Jobs or the Printers page?

im also going to try on my windows laptop

looks like the first one is what i downloaded on fedora
maybe i need to delete it somehow

It says here that the port reset failed
I don’t know if it is possible to reset the printer to the basic settings

I was able to install it when, after an unsuccessful attempt with RPM, I tried to install with a script, after which the canon window opened and there in the versions I chose MF4100

OK, is it working now?

I didn’t do anything, Windows simply doesn’t recognize the printer, the window I showed I opened not in printers but in USB connections

So when did you “install with a script”? After trying to connect with Windows?

I installed it with the script as soon as it didn’t work with rpm

and the drivers from Windows don’t work because it doesn’t find the printer

OK. I was confused because in your original post you said what you’d done, but you didn’t include that part.

I suggest you edit the original post to clearly explain the complete sequence of events, and maybe someone will have an idea how to progress.

Okay, but I don’t think anyone will help me because it’s more of a printer problem. Maybe you know if there is a practice to reinstall the printer software? If I take it in for repair

Yeah, there probably is a way to do a factory reset.

Searching around found a few videos on how to reset a Canon printer, but they weren’t model-specific.

Its for modern ones sadly

I also have a question: will the printer work if I install the driver on a Windows virtual machine?
