We don’t bark at anyone. Unless that person wants to be barked at, that’s a different topic then.
We genuinely don’t care what you, the user, does with your machine. Just don’t report bugs upstream if you heavily modified your setup and that’s it.

My 2 ¢, as someone who uses Gnome after trying Plasma, Xfce and a couple of WMs (Sway, Hyprland) I am (was) a heavy Mac user for a couple of decades and Gnome just makes sense to me because they have a similar design philosophy.
I remember in the olden times, back when Mac was only beginning to be widely used, people would always balk at how non-customizable it was compared to Windows (it was XP or 7 at the time, i don’t remember) and I see the same argument mirrored now. KDE reminds me of Windows too much and I don’t much care for customization. As long as my DE stays out of the way and I set a nice background image, I’m good to go.
Also, I use laptops exclusively and I love Gnome’s trackpad gestures - they are so polished and work just right.
In the end I think as long as a DE is mature enough, it’s all about your use case and personal preferences.
I totally understand people who have been longtime Windows users and have a strong preference for KDE and for really disliking Gnome. I just think people should chill a bit about piling on hate on random things.

If you say that someone’s labour of love is „a joke” or that we bark at someone, then yes, expect it to be flagged. I wish people matured wrt disliking something. I don’t like american pancakes, but that doesn’t mean I feel they need to insult them or insult people who like them.

I don’t dislike Gnome. I couldn’t give two hoots about it either way.
I’ve not said anything about Gnome in this thread, other than it being bloated was “vapid nonsense”.
Thank you, Gokhan. I don’t have the technical ability to collect objective data like you did. But I’ve used all three (and also Budgie). To me, GNOME “feels” just as responsive as KDE Plasma. However, COSMIC has a noticeably more responsive “feel” to it. Using GNOME also “feels” simpler and more efficient to me. I do use a few GNOME extensions. And intensive use extensions by some may be contribute to the “GNOME is bloated” narrative when comparing it to their similar level of ricing in KDE Plasma. I agree that COSMIC strikes the optimal balance but that it is currently not quite mature enough for me to rebase from Silverblue to COSMIC Atomic.
