I created an f44 vm and it set my timezone to New York but I'm in California

I downloaded a MATE F44 spin. I created a VM and during installation when it said automatically setting timezone it set it to New York, but I live in California. When I create a F43 VM it correctly sets the time zone to Los Angeles.

You can change your timezone by following the instructions at Timezone

I know that. The issue is why is Fedora 44 not correctly setting the timezone when Fedora 43 did it just fine? Fedora 44 does not correctly set the timezone when it says it is.

There are free and commercial databases that link IP addresses to locations, which can the be used to get the timezone associated with an IP address. Try curl ipinfo.io. Networks controlled by large enterprises often give the location of HQ. I would not be surprised to see distant locations for some internet providers, and of course VPN’s give bogus locations. The databases need constant updating, so the location reported for a fixed IP can change.
