I’ve been using Fedora since Windows 10 came out – I don’t remember which version of Fedora it was, maybe 14 or 15 – and on my then-new laptop, which failed because, according to Microsoft, my computer is too old for it – what nonsense!
So I have some experience with new installations.
Ok, I’ll take version 40.
Don’t be sorry - since I ditched Windows, I’ve enjoyed the usually very reliable distributions of Fedora.
The printer wasn’t really expensive – 20 euros including shipping and it was still in its original packaging, so if it really doesn’t work, which I doubt, I haven’t spent much.
I’ll look into the snapshot – I hope I can manage it. Otherwise, it’s not a problem because the computer is used purely for private purposes, not very intensively, just the usual – internet, online shopping, writing texts, nothing too exciting.

I live in Austria, in the middle of the country in the north in a small town in the mountains.
As long as you remain at TL0 the system will limit how rapidly you may post. As soon as you have been active enough to reach TL1 this limitation will be eased. Just be patient and work with Gregory until the situation is solved.
There were recent changes to CUPS to deal with security issues. It looks like HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) is still being maintained, so maybe it will work for you – there are Fedora packages.

I have now installed Fedora 40, but unfortunately the printer problem is still unresolved. I think I will try a different distribution via LiveCD to see if that helps.

Your account has been updated to TL1 so the limitations on how many posts you can make in a given time frame and the size of those posts are relaxed. You should no longer see the forced delays.
If you cannot find anything meaningful in the sudo journalctl -u cups output, another thing you can try is increasing the log level. To do so, change the LogLevel warn line to LogLevel debug in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and then run sudo systemctl restart cups.service. Then try printing again with sudo journalctl -u cups -f running in a terminal window and you should get more information about what is happening and, potentially, what is going wrong.
Don’t forget to set the log level back to warn after you are done troubleshooting.
I have now turned on the debug level and looked at the log file
The log file starts at 22:12. The first message in red does not appear until:

Unfortunately, that message is just letting you know that something failed. What’s important is what it tried to do before it gave up. I was hoping there would be some details about what filter commands it was trying to run or something like that.
