HP1000 no longer prints since the system update a few days ago

According to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-laserjet-1000-printer/45674

Windows 7, 8, 8.1, Server 2008, 2008R2 printer drivers End of Support. HP no longer supports these printer drivers as of Nov 1, 2022. HP recommends upgrading your operating system to a supported version.

I interpret that as this printer is not Mopria certificate and basically stops working on windows. This could explain why it costs so little. It also means that driverless printing won’t work for this printer. It might work with hplip or one of the foomatic or gutenprint drivers. Or maybe you need to download a printer driver from HP.

What device driver did you try or which driver did you use when it was working if it was working?
