Basically i got my RX 6600 egpu to run perfectly. Now im wondering how do i make it be the main GPU; in order to get games at a higher framerate and better quality. For example, Minecraft before the egpu was running at 100 FPS. Now, it gets the same 100 FPS suposedly using both GPUs.
Is there a way to make it possible? I already got it running on windows but i want all my linux games to be the same
what are your hardware specs? the apu or igpu you have?
if you want to permanently use the external gpu, you might be able to disable via bios the igpu or apu, but it will remain disabled and you will depend from the 6600 being connected to use the pc
is it a usb c adapter, or uses thunderbolt or amd oculink? when booting the pc that gpu might not work until it reaches login screen
perhaps you could try a software solution to select what gpu is used and when
focusing on the game you mention, the gpu is important, but the cpu is important too, some games are more cpu dependant that others and if the game doesnt select the gpu it will use, the onboard one will be used and the external one will do nothing to very little
I’ve got an i7 1165G7 with Iris Xe graphics. The gpu is connected with Thunderbolt 4. My main objective is using the iGPU when the RX card is not plugged in, so disabling the Iris Xe card is not an option.
there was a solution called optimus some years ago, meant to work with intel cpu and nvidia gpus, i never used such solution because or i save money with the apu and not buying a gpu or i put a amd gpu and i never buy intel
this solution never became popular and i never heard about it supporting other than nvidia gpus, it seems there are some scripts forcing this change on amd gpus and amd apus because it has been done with steam deck and other consoles running steam on linux, but i never done it and cant find much information about it, most people doing it have done it under steam os
the focus in my opinion should go to the game itself first and selecting the right gpu to process the game graphics, if it finds a intel igpu, it will use that first unless you tell it to use a different gpu
i read something about egpu script, yes, not sure if the person who did the tool is still related to the project and what is going on now, because i understand you have to turn off pc, remove the gpu and then turn back on the pc without the gpu so it works again as normal, correct?
still that doesnt fix the problem example, the fps on minecraft limited by the igpu
i was doing a small search online and i found same problem but with a 3080 and a 7600 on windows, so i would aim to attack the game, not the hardware configuration because it seems it is a game software thing, not a pc hardware thing
