Hello, I am getting a laptop soon and I am hoping to mainly use sway on Secureblue. However, I’ve barely used sway in the past, so I was hoping to have the option to use Gnome as a fallback.
I tried testing this setup a few days ago, first installing Secureblue sway and layering gnome. Gnome failed to start from tty, citing missing files/processes. Next, I tried the other way around, installing secureblue gnome and layering sway. This was basically the same; I could select it on the login screen but upon logging in, it was just a frozen screen with an error about missing files across the top of the screen.
Is there actaully a way to have multiple DEs installed on an atomic distro? If so, what steps do I need to take in order to get this working?
Given that Secureblue is not Fedora, even though related, you might get better answers on their forums.
If the question was about two Fedora Atomic desktop offerings, and say Sway Atomic were the main desktop, and Silverblue would be used as a fallback, then an option would be to install Silverblue, bring it up to date, pin the latest deployment, then rebase to Sway Atomic. That way your Sway desktop would be kept up to date, but if needed, you would still be able to boot into Silverblue. However, that would be an outdated version, and to avoid that, you’d need to rpm-ostree rollback to the Silverblue deployment from time to time, bring it up to date, then rollback again to the Sway deployment (which might need also prior pinning).
