Hi!
Some system info: Fedora 42 KDE on Lenovo LOQ with i7-13650, RTX 4060 (hybrid mode), 32GB RAM DDR5.
I’ve been contemplating whether I should add a linux-swap partition and enable hibernation (and whether it is everything that needs to be done to set it up).
On latest installs Fedora installer only enables zram - which works surprisingly well both when I use the laptop AND on sleep mode (battery-wise).
What is the current Hibernate situation on Fedora and should it be manually added (if lets say I want to have the lid close with the current session for several days instead of hours)?
To also answer to the question in the title, for me it certainly wasn’t worth it. I can leave my home laptop in sleep mode for days without significant drop in battery charge level.
I’d say that if you can only leave your laptop suspended for hours instead of days, then either it’s a battery issue, or the system doesn’t suspend properly. Or is it because of the discrete GPU?
From what I have seen here on the forums, not many are using a hibernate setup, but I have nevertheless read about successful hibernate setups IIRC.
I lost ~5% in several hours, might be the dGPU. Gaming laptops in general are bad with battery management.
Your experience sounds promising though, I guess I won’t go through the hassle of setting it up after all
