I’m trying to figure out the proper steps for managing accounts linked to Fedora Accounts. So far, I believe I’ve only interacted with two linked sites using my account: Fedora Forge (forge.fedoraproject.org) and this Fedora Discussion forum (discussion.fedoraproject.org).
Specifically, I’d like to know:
Email update: I noticed that email setting options exist in three different places: Fedora Accounts, Fedora Forge, and Fedora Discussion. Should I update my email only in accounts.fedoraproject.org and expect it to automatically sync across linked services, or do I need to update it individually on each platform?
Deleting or closing individual accounts: Is it possible to deactivate or unlink access to a specific service without affecting the main Fedora Account? For example, if I don’t plan on using the Forge account for now, is there a way to close or unlink just that profile?
Username change: Is it possible to change a username, or does that require an infrastructure ticket/manual request?
Full account deletion: What is the process if someone wants to completely delete or anonymize their main Fedora Account and all linked services?
Any guidance or links to official documentation on how these account operations are handled across Fedora infrastructure would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for sharing that link—I couldn’t find it through searching. I recall reading that post, which explains how to anonymize a Discussion profile and why accounts cannot simply be deleted. It also noted that for a Fedora Account deletion, one should file a ticket at https://pagure.io/fedora-pdr/issues, but that link returns a 404 error.
I wonder if this is still the process today, as that post is about four years old and sounded like a work in progress.
The post you linked address two of the main issues I brought up (username change and full account deletion), though they only seem to answer them partially. It seems easier for users to submit a ticket for admins or moderators to delete the account entirely rather than trying to change the username.
I added another comment there with the new link and noted that if you are just wanting to rename you can just make a new account yourself. No ticketing needed.
You will have to use another email address or change the address associated with the old account first (email addresses can only be associated with one account).
So, in many/most cases you can just do this yourself.
No, not generally. You can however ask for that… (well, I don’t think we have any way to do ‘ghost accounts’ on forge, but we can anonymize on discourse on request.
I think it would have been amazing if it were done by default, as the user is asking for account deletion and will no longer have access to their account.
I saw on GitLab and GitHub that if a person deletes their account, it gets replaced by a ghost account, which is what I was referring to.
