How do I run Zoom, flatpak or repository, in an X11 session on Fedora 43

Many people including me have problems with screen sharing on Zoon using Fedora 43 KDE. Screen sharing is vital, so I need to get this working. I had two questions:

  1. I have a Windows 10 VM guest. If I run it in the VM, is it still Wayland and will I have the same issue?

  2. Is there some way I can run Zoom, flatpak or repository, in an X11 session on Fedora 43?

Yes, there are still Fedora versions which use X11. I am not entirely sure but to the best of my knowledge the KDE and the Gnome versions have stopped using X11. There are some spins which still use it, so when you install one of those in a VM then you should be good to go. One of them is the XFCE spin, lightweight so ideal for a VM.

Cinnamon is a popular X11 desktop.

KDE and Gnome can both (theoretically) run X11 software, but I dont Zoon so cant comment on this issue in particular.

I use Zoom on F43 KDE Wayland in a browser (Ungoogled Chromium Flatpak, but any Chromium-based browser should work). Screen sharing works fine that way - so that might be an option worth considering.

You can get an X11 session in Fedora KDE by doing sudo dnf install plasma-workspace-x11, which should give you an option at login time to choose X11 or Wayland. However in a year or so, KDE Plasma will entirely remove the X11 session.

Thank you. I will give the plasma-x11 option a try

For completeness, this option should also work. Screensharing from the VM would be the business of Windows, not of anything on the Linux host side.
