How do I replace macOS with Asahi entirely, post-install?

Today I installed Asahi Linux on my 2023 Mac Mini using the wizard installer from the website. I used all the default settings and everything worked great - I now boot into Asahi Linux. However, 180 GB or so are being used for the macOS partition and I have only 50 GB or so for Linux. How can I delete macOS entirely and add all that space to my Linux partition?

https://asahilinux.org/docs/project/faq/ tells you why you can’t remove macOS. You can add external storage for use with asahi.

I’m using Fedora and using Macs, but not Asahi, so I’m not sure how Asahi would handle this, but generally speaking you could shrink the MacOS partition righ from within MacOS with Disk Utility, and use the free space in Asahi (either as a separate mount, or, if possible, increasing the Asahi root partition[1]).

  1. This can be a risky operation, so make sure to have appropriate backups in place. ↩︎
