TLDR; I got scared when my monitor went into sleep mode while applying an update how do i make it so that the monitors don’t go into a sleep mode when updating my system
Hi Fedora community,
I am a new linux user and had a scare today when applying an update.
I went to restart my system to apply the update and as i like to do with windows i like to watch/monitor the update.
Then while the update was happening both of my monitor went into sleep mode and gave me a bloody scare, so I looked up how to troubleshoot one was to press escape on the fedora loading screen so i did that and i couldn’t see anything wrong so i decided to leave the computer for 5ish minutes to see if it would fix itself which thank god it did.
So i have come to this forum to ask how do i make it so that my monitors won’t go into sleep mode when updating in fedora
Thank you,

You can changed when the monitor goes to standby in the Power Management settings of your DE. There is not a specific setting for when updates are being applied.
Gnome’s default configuration seems to target cubicle farm mass deployments where users are supposed to focus on their assigned tasks and IT deals with making sure updates are applied. If you are like me and interested in the details, consider doing updates by running dnf in a terminal or running journalctl with -follow. You might also want to remove rhgb quiet from the kernel command-line. Note that dnf won’t update flatpaks, so you may also need flatpak update.
So i do updates through Discovery and for flatpacks i do it through the terminal,
Also i think there maybe a misunderstanding when i update in discovery i click the restart system then that loading bar shows to apply the update but if the updates takes a while my monitor turn off then on with the fedora loading screen then the screen says it going into power saving mode even though my computer is still running.
It is not while in the discovery app that my monitors go to sleep i have already disabled that in KDE settings in power management “after a period of inactivity do nothing”
There is usually a ‘blank screen’ timing setting within your control panel under the power settings that controls the time delay before blanking the screen. I think that time is 5 minutes or less by default. It is possible that simply extending that time to 15 minutes may solve the issue.
Many monitors tend to display the message about the power saving when they receive no signal. Mine do so immediately, so it appears in the very short time where the gpu is inactive during a reboot.
sadly KDE power management setting have nothing like that
EDIT:
Unless anyone knows of a command i can put in the terminal that allows me the same function as that gnome setting
okay i will see if i disable it if it will not turn my screens off when updating,
if so that is probably solved thanks,
somehow i did not see that setting i am blind as a bat how did i not see that before.
