How do I find compatible PCIe Driver?

I’m working on replacing my Windows 10 OS to Fedora and I’ve hit a snag.

The PCIe I have installed isn’t compatible. Digging up the manual, it has native Windows 8 drivers, and their website only has a Windows driver. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this?

Running lspci, I was able to determine it was 0c:00.0 USB controller: Renesas Electronics Corp. uPD720202 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 02), and I already downloaded their windows driver in case it could help. Here’s the result for lspci -vvv:

I did a web search for “linux uPD720202” and found a number of sites.
This sounded interesting GitHub - markusj/upd72020x-load: Firmware loader for Renesas uPD72020x USB 3.0 chipsets for Linux · GitHub

Under ‘compatibility’ the vendor claims it is compatible with " Linux 2.6.31 and up - LTS Versions only" so maybe they mean Ububtu or something. You should contact them (as well as get advice here) to see what they mean.

rename K2026090.mem to renesas_usb_fw.mem from this zip file (64bit dir).

https://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/pexusb3s4xv_Firmware/Firmware_Update.zip

copy the file to /usr/lib/firmware/ directory

Create /etc/dracut.conf.d/renesas-fw.conf and add

install_items+=" /usr/lib/firmware/renesas_usb_fw.mem "

Then run dracut to add the firmware to initramfs.

sudo dracut -fvv

Reboot

The firmware warning and any log spam from renesas should be fixed.

I had issues with my yubikey when using renesas, adding firmware fixed it here.

It is interesting, but I am having issues trying to figure out how to run the script. Is it supposed to be run in a specific way?

Edit: forgot to include the error message:

upd72020x loader not found at ./upd72020x-load

The output looks normal, no firmware warning or other issues.

What is the actual issue? the xhci-pci-renesas driver is present and seems functional.

It’s not detecting anything plugged into the USB’s. Microphones, speakers, flashdrives, nothing.

If everything is working fine, than I’m stumped on what could be blocking them. All I really have to go off is that the accessories plugged into them power on briefly before shutting off.

Do you see messages in dmesg when devices are plugged in?

Nothing plugged into those ports

Looks like the kernel drive is not seeing a plug in.

Just to double check exactly what you are doing and see can you do this

  1. unplug all devices
  2. reboot
  3. run sudo journalctl --follow
  4. plug in one device

Are there any logs?

Actually, no.

There were logs when I connected the device into a USB port on the motherboard, but no logs showed up when connecting to a port on the PCIe.
