@barryascott, so when I press Escape, I’m no longer using Plymouth? I ask because gitlab.freedesktop.org/plymouth/plymouth/-/issues/292#note_3010598 appears to demonstrate otherwise. (I can’t tell whether PMOS’s boot log is different.) [1]
I assume, note assume, that after the ESC plymouth gets out of the way and you see what the kernel outputs to the console. The only thing plymouth is doing is watching for another ESC to switch back to splash-screen mode.
I run most of my systems without plymouth installed and see a colourful console. I also see the logs after the LUKS prompts as you report on systems without plymouth.
