Hi!
A few weeks ago, I installed Fedora Asahi Remix 44 on my MBP M1 (2020) 16/512, and I am super happy.
In order to make my life more convenient, I’d like to change the config from sleep-suspend to hibernate.
I found sleep-suspend in the M1 Feature Support page, but no mention of hibernation.
I read several progress reports that stress that the power management architecture is no trivial matter, and that the basic M1 is somewhat different from the next Ms in this regard…
Does anyone has solid info about the possibility / impossibility of setting up hibernation on the MBP M1?
Thank you
PS: I’m new here, and hopefully conforming to the guidelines. Otherwise please let me know, and I’ll make the necessary adjustments. Thanks.
i am on kde fedora45 beta and i dont see the option to be enabled, it is turn off or sleep(suspend to ram) what i see here
in general terms, hibernation that is also called suspend to disk, is problematic and for most doesnt work
sleep that is also called suspend to ram, is less problematic, but not perfect, often you will hear about people loosing internet, sound, some video outputs when pc wakes up, stuff like that, and i am not talking about just linux, it happens on windows too
to have hibernation, or suspend to disk, you need iirc a swap partition as big if not bigger than the amount of ram you have, for example if your mbp has 16 gbs of ram, you need a partition a bit bigger than that, 20 gbs would be perfect(old rule for swap partition was make 1.5 bigger than your ram), some see this as a waste of space
often is recomended to enable the option that after certain time of inactivity is better to tell the laptop to turn itself off, so it saves battery, the idea would be set the desktop session to restore where it was on next login, same for the web browser, since it is a fast machine with ssd, the boot time is like 20 or 30 seconds, so you dont waste your time and you have battery
i found this article for fedora workstation, not mentioning anything about apple arm socs
Thank you both for your inputs.
I guess I’m going to switch off and hack a script to reopen windows and documents in my preferred spaces.
One door closes, another opens!
