Help Needed: Lowering Screen Resolution on Fedora 39, KDE Plasma for HP Pavilion 14 AMD

Hello,

I’m having a bit of trouble with my HP Pavilion 14 AMD laptop’s screen resolution. It’s stuck at 2880x1800, but I want to switch it to 1920x1600. Every time I try, the screen goes black.

Anyone else run into this? Any fixes?

Here’s what I’m working with:

  • Laptop: HP Pavilion 14 AMD, AMD 7840u processor
  • Default resolution: 2880x1800
  • Wanted resolution: 1920x1600 (16:10 aspect ratio)

I had white flickering issue which i fixed by updating amdgpu.sg_display=0

Appreciate any advice you can offer!

What does the xrandr terminal command output show for resolutions?
Is 1920x1600 listed? If not then gou cannot use it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried xrandr
I think this is supported. I use it on Windows 11.

I tried to check logs while changing the resolution, But It doesn’t throw any error.
I see a warning about Wayland does not support Qindow::requestActivate().

Ok so the screen does not allow the resolution you want.
You can only use a resolution support by your screen.

tried it with X window instead of Wayland?

X11 cannot make the hardware support the resolution.
