HDMI monitor not working, but HDMI projector works

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 4i running Fedora 41 workstation. When I connect an external monitor using the HDMI connector, nothing happens, not even when I press the “Fn+F7” button that is supposed to switch between different screen configurations. I tried already with 2 different monitors that are working with other Linux computers (Raspberry Pi). The external monitors I have are also Lenovo.

When I use the same HDMI port in my Lenovo PC to connect an external projector, it works as expected.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a LG monitor that will only work (with Fedora) if I in this exact order 1) Turn on monitor, 2) power up system.

I am pretty sure it is due to the commands Fedora is sending and the monitor receiving - basically there is a bug in the implementation of the monitor connection protocol.

It seems the monitor must have power before connecting so that the EDID data can be read and the monitor properly configured.
