HDMI audio issues - audio randomly cutting off

After applying Fedora updates, I got a new issue – this time with HDMI audio.

I connect my laptop to a TV via HDMI to watch Youtube or play music. All fine and dandy. It worked fine until the latest updates. Now the sound will randomly cut off after a while, and I will need to switch audio outputs to get it going again.

I followed the workaround here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/Performance-tuning#rlimits

This made it better, but the issue is still present. Is there a better workaround/fix?

This is getting frustrating. I still remember the last time, the battery charge status issue. It is frustrating that applying updates carries a risk of breaking something that was working fine, leaving me with no choice but to wait for it to be fixed.

EDIT: I’m also noticing that when listening to music through my headphones (no HDMI, just the laptop’s headphone jack), I get random-ish crackling. I’m sure this is the same problem at the source, because it wasn’t like this before.

in the end, PipeWire - ArchWiki

did the trick

Arch has a reputation for complex configuration, but that means its success is largely due to the excellent documentation. Many Linux issues are shared across many distros, so ArchWiki is often useful for users of other distros.
