Guest user with `xguest` fails to display desktop

Here’s what I did:

  1. Fresh install of Fedora 43 Workstation.
  2. Install xguest package to enable a Guest user.
  3. Log out.
  4. Log in as Guest

Logging in as Guest "succeeds” except that no desktop appears. Instead, the login options disappear and the Guest user is stuck on the GDM screen. No desktop.

I can use GDM’s Power button in the top right to log out, at which point Fedora warns me that “Other users are logged in: xguest” but no matter what I do or where I click, I can’t get a desktop to launch.

I’ve confirmed that SELinux is set to Enforcing mode.

I suspect you are running a Wayland session, and xguest is an incompatible X based software.

You could add a new user account and use that for guests?
