Grisbi - accounting software not updated

I am using Grisbi - very nice accounting software, and found out that inside Discover it was not updated a long time ago. There is 2.0.5 version, but now 3.0 is out that is available also on flathub.

Posting this here, that someone involved might see. I got suggestion that I should open a bug on buggzila, but honestly it is too big of a project for me … Sometimes I have a feeling, which I can understand, but some software developers require that you open an account and file a proper bug ticket, just because you want to send them a message that there is something wrong with their software …

The Fedora RPM is indeed 2.0.5. I guess nobody has updated the package to the latest upstream version.

But since your post is tagged with kinoite, I think you should be using the Flatpak anyway, I don’t expect that a personal finance application is sufficiently low-level that it needs to be layered on an immutable system.

Thanks, tag changed. I hope it catches the right eyes …

I recommend using the Flatpaks from Flathub.

Currently there’s a debate within the Fedora working groups about what packages should be delivered as Flatpaks[1], but the plan going forward seems to be that only packages which for some specific reason need to be packaged as Flatpak by Fedora, will be delivered as such, and for the rest of Flatpaks the user will have the option to choose a Flathub version.

So if you trust the source for this specific Flatpak as delivered in the Flathub remote, you can go with that one.

Thanks for pinging me! I actually also maintain the Flatpak on Flathub, and I forgot to update the RPM in Fedora. I would suggest you use the Flatpak instead, that’s what I also use.
(I should update the RPM as well btw)

Thanks for all the answers. What about the Discover?

In Discover, on the app page, there’s a dropdown box on the top-right corner that will let you select “Fedora Linux”, “Fedora Flatpaks” and “Flathub”. I suggest selecting “Flathub”, so you’ll get the version from there.

Thanks. What about now that I am getting warning about gnome 46 not being supported and this affects grisbi?

I take it you are referring to this (you did not include the actual error so I am speculating):

Info: runtime org.gnome.Platform branch 46 is end-of-life, with reason:
The GNOME 46 runtime is no longer supported as of April 17, 2025. Please ask your application developer to migrate to a supported platform.
Info: applications using this runtime:
   org.grisbi.Grisbi

As the message says, the Grisbi version on Flathub uses the Gnome 46 runtime, which is EOL, and needs to be updated by the maintainer on Flathub.
