Gnome uses openbox by default?

When I run screenfetch I am showing WM: OpenBox but I thought the default for Ghome is mutter and it is a requirement for Gnome? I do have mutter package installed so I’m so confused now.

If you’re using GNOME Shell, then you’re using mutter.

What does echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP say?
