GNOME session fails on first login after boot (fedora 44 beta)

On Fedora 44 Beta, GNOME won’t log in on the first attempt after a fresh boot. I type my password at GDM, get a blank screen, and get thrown right back to GDM. Every single time.

My dumb workaround for now: I log into Niri first, immediately log out, and then GNOME logs in perfectly. Not exactly an ideal boot experience, but it gets me to a desktop.

See attached video.

In the video the Niri workaround doesn’t seem to be working, but when I logged in to Niri again and logged out and logged back in to gnome it worked.

System: Fedora 44 Beta, gnome-session-50~rc-1.fc44, AMD Lucienne (amdgpu), Wayland

Did you do a fresh install or an upgrade from an older version, to F44?

Fresh Install

I wonder if this is an issue with the language of the keyboard.
Maybe some letters in the password change if the keybaord layout changes?

What do you get in the journal log for the time frame around the failed login?

I had this under F39 got clicked out to the login screen again when try to login.

It was with Wayland and I had to deactivate the disable-extension-version-validation.
