Gnome-control-center shows no applications in app list

Hello,

I have 2 computers running fedora 43. Today, I updated my laptop and shortly after noticed that the gnome settings app (gnome-control-center) shows no apps in its app section. When launching the settings app with gnome-control-center -v applications I get the following error:

cc-applications-panel[ 5271]: WARNING: Error retrieving app filter: App filtering is globally disabled

There are already some old threads from 2022 that talk about this error (1, 2, 3). They all come to the conclusion that this functionality requires the malcontent packge, which was already installed on my system. I did however not set up any parental controls on any of my systems.

Out of pure curiosity and because I do not really use this feature, I then updated my second computer, a desktop, which now has the same error. This seems like a regression. I have not found any newer threads talking about this issue.

If someone has a link to a newer thread or a solution I would be very happy. Thank you.

Edit: More recent thread regarding the issue, however again only with the solution of installing malcontent.

Possibly helpful output of rpm -qa | grep 'malcontent' ?

malcontent-libs-0.13.0-3.fc43.x86_64
malcontent-0.13.0-3.fc43.x86_64
malcontent-ui-libs-0.13.0-3.fc43.x86_64
malcontent-control-0.13.0-3.fc43.x86_64

The version of gnome control center installed is 49.6-1.fc43.x86_64

Edit2: I just setup a new f43 VM in gnome-boxes, which now after an update shows exactly the same behavior. Definetly seems like a general problem with fedora workstation.

Also seeing on Gnome 50 w/F44.
