Hey guys How can I basically tell KDE Discover to safely not update KDE, SDDM etc for 13 months till fedora 44 ends support? I personally want to keep the same version of kde for the intire lifetime

may I ask what is your motivation for this?
I advise against this, as KDE updates may include security fixes for dangerous bugs.
I basically dont like Big changes to the UI and also my workflow may break as I use the Klassy theme engine. Thats why im asking. I need a KDE version to stick with
In theory, you could use DNF options such as excludepkgs to exclude these packages from any updates. This will not even allow minor updates (bugfixes) to get installed.
However, as written above, I highly recommend not to do that. Instead, if you really want to not update KDE packages, I recommend you switch to a different Linux distribution instead, or advocate for getting Fedora have a more helpful KDE update schedule (see my link above).
Agreed. For these requirements I would be inclined to try Kubuntu LTS, especially with the new “Bullet Proof KDE” program where Plasma 6.6 will get 3 years of support, including bugfix releases.
@pg-tips I basically already use Kubuntu but because I study cs and im interested in learning more about redhat family and enterprise linux as well, so im thinking of Rocky Linux that has a kde spin, do you think Its worth giving it a try? Basically its difficult for me as I don’t prefer Gnome and in enterprise desktop, its heavily invested
Rocky could be worth a try.
To be honest I don’t think Discover is flawless on any distro, and sometimes it’s easier to do updates from the command line.
Or, maybe you want to use Fedora for experimentation, while you keep Kubuntu as your daily driver so that you have an LTS fallback if there’s a problematic change in Fedora.
Alternatively, you could continue using Ubuntu, but run Fedora in a container/toolbox, giving you a gradual mix between two worlds.
