I have recently installed Fedora on my laptop. The laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 7590, with i7-9750H, and Nvidia GTX 1650 Mobile/Max-Q.
I’m on Fedora 36, with latest kernel (5.18.19-200.fc36.x86_64). On some boots, the system will freeze before the login screen. With rhgb
, it’ll show the splash screen with the rotating circle, then the rotating circle will go away and it’ll stuck there. With rhgb quiet
removed from kernel options, it’ll show kernel output, and then the screen will go blank with a _
cursor (on a normal working boot, it’ll stay here for one second, then the login screen come up, but if it freezes, it’ll freeze here). When it froze, I cannot ping
the laptop, nor can SSH connect (host unreachable). Can’t get to console with Ctrl + Alt + F2 too. All I can do is force shutdown by holding the power button.
At first I thought at was driver problems with the Nvidia GPU, so I blacklisted nouveau
and nvidia
(although I did not install the drivers from Nvidia), and disabled the GPU via udev rules. But even after that, the problem is still there. I have checked sudo journalctl -b -1
after a restart but I cannot find any clue about the cause. I’ll attach it here:

So apparently the folder ccpp-2022-08-29-00:49:18.482913-2189
is supposed to be deleted during the freeze, but it froze before it could be deleted, and after the reboot, it has to be deleted again. That’s the only suspicious thing to me from the failed boot log, but I’m not sure if that’s the cause.
This does not occur on every boot, but often enough to be annoying.
Does anyone has any idea?
