From Proposed Common Issues to Ask Fedora

Did you delete the file or have file moved to the trash?
If to the trash the space is still in use.
Does the df terminal command show a change in free space?

There is also the possibility that the amount of data in the file system is large enough that it would require removal of a large amount of data to be seen on the gui. With gnome, and more than a TB of data in my /home the disks app cannot show a size change unless it were more than 10GB in size (1% or more). Even the disk usage analyzer cannot show a significant change in usage without actually looking at the numbers instead of just the graphical display.

On the cli the df command may show the changes with the numbers in the Used & Available columns after the item has been removed from the trash.
