Fn keys activated upon last update (Media function on)

Good day lads,

So while screwing around and doing some stuff I had my Fn (F1-F12) keys randomly work by default, which is weird because I disabled that in UEFI. After checking UEFI and verifying that it’s still off (set to Media Function, or something like that), I tried looking it up in keybinds and web, and found basically nothing. I am using an Acer, and I am most certainly confused

Pressing Fn does disable them, but it’s pretty annoying and gets in the way of my activities. If any of you have an idea on what happened, I’d be mighty glad to know it

Apparently inverting the option in UEFI fixes this, could anyone possibly replicate this or could it be just my system? This is simply antithetic

Similar things have been reported with Apple keyboards, where the kernel driver by default turns an F-key press (as reported by the keyboard) into a media keypress (as seen by the OS)

If your F<num> keys do not work, this is probably because the kernel driver for the keyboard has defaulted to using the media keys and requiring you to use the Fn key to get to the F<num> keys.

I guess an Acer machine wouldn’t be using the same hid_apple kernel driver, but perhaps something similar is going on.

That’s the weird thing, they just swapped to being on randomly

On both Lenovo and Acer, my function key usability changes between kernel updates.

That’s weird but at least it’s been replicated I guess
