Flathub Fastly CDN have slow connection in PL

I’d like to add that the slow speeds are not a general problem with flathub, this seems to be related to your ISP networking or your local networking.

The reason I am saying this is because I get 6-7 MB/s download speeds (that is the max speed of my home connection) from flathub, and I am in GER which isn’t far away from PL. (Actually, I would think we are connecting to the same CDN endpoint).

Interesting!

I am located in Germany too and I’m facing 36-350kbit/s. Not the first time, this problem persists since months.
May I ask you where you are located?

I am in lower Saxony. And customer of Telekom.

You may, I’m in the southwest (Rhineland-Palatinate), DSL customer of O2.

Flathub connections for updates are always maxing out my tariff‘s speed limit, I have not seen anything below that in the past 5 years. Never ever noted that flathub would be slower than anything else on my system…

I’ve found it to be better than the others. Random allegations aren’t helpful. If you have a definite problem start a thread for help with it.

And I’d like to add that I already explained, at least twice, that the problems are NOT related to my ISP or my local network. I know that Flatpak works fine for many people, but it also does not work fine for many other people. I’m not the only with slow download problems.

This is the thread.

I’m in Wrocław, west of the country, fairly close to the German border, so I wonder if this is related? This has been going for the most part of this year. I don’t feel like engaging with the local Linux community, I can only handle so much.

I guess the best would be to get in touch with Flathub https://discourse.flathub.org/

I may do that eventually, because the problem persists, but I was really frustrated (I guess it was obvious, LOL) with the whole thing and I didn’t feel like opening another internet account.

You ca login with your GitHub account if you have one.

Yes, I do! Thank you

This seems to be the thread for throwing around random allegations.

That doesn’t help anyone trying to understand your problem. There’s not much point in making a statement like that unless you just dislike Flatpaks and want to slag them off.

That is a factual statement which might help solve the problem.

Try making a list of possible problems and going through it.

  • An obvious one - have you got enough space on your disk?
  • How fast is your broadband speed?
  • Choose a Flatpak and time how long it takes to install - and I’ll try it on my system as a comparison.
  • If you have a spare disk, try it on another Linux distribution.
  • Flo’s suggestion https://discourse.flathub.org/ is a good one.

Were you able to solve the issue? I am struggling with this too and can’t find any solution. Steam downloads are super fast, while any flatpak is downloading at 200KB/s at best. Also Polish, from Katowice.

There is not a solution.
It will have to be addressed by the CDN Flathub uses.

Nope. Sorry. I gave up trying and I gave up trying to use Linux as my desktop. Modded and customized Windows 11 works fine for me and it’s easier and nowhere as frustrating as what I was experiencing when trying to make Linux desktop work.

I’m staying on Windows, “it just works” once debloated, for as long as I possibly can. I may have to switch at some point if Microsoft makes it too hard to mod it but I probably have at least two years. Maybe the Linux desktop situation will improve by then, but I doubt.

Yeah, it’s the CDN, I’m pretty sure of this by now. I’ve seen other posts from people in Europe and Asia. Users in the US normally don’t have issues with Flatpaks. One more reason to stay away from Linux for the time being. I tried to do without Flatpak, but too many apps are only available as Flatpaks. So, forget it.

I don’ even… know how to reply to this.

Really? I know this is a long thread but what is the point in replying if you don’t read what was already said?

I did read all your posts, but missed the one about speed. Checking the space on your disk is an obvious question but a valid one.
